About Bilal Muslim Mission Of Tanzania

Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania (BMMT) is a charitable and nonprofit organization involved nationally in the propagation of Shia faith ofIslam and offers services in the field of education, medical treatment and social services.

BMMT is registered in Tanzania under the Societies Ordinance 1954 and issued with a Certificate Number. 5349 of 16 April 1968.

BMMT is headquartered in Dar es Salaam and has 7 regional centers located throughout Tanzania, namely, Coast region, Tanga, Zanzibar, Moshi, Arusha, Lake Zone and West Zone. A total of 75 sub-centers are run under these centers.

As per the amended Constitution which was adopted by the 74th Supreme Council Session held in Dar es Salaam on 28 April 2013 and came into effect on the same date, The Chairman and Trustees are appointed by the Chairman of the Federation.



Our aim is to propagate the true religion of Islam as per the teachings of Ahlulbayt (AS) through organizing Majlis, Lectures for men, women and children and building mosques with good facilities of Wadu and Praying area


Our aim is promoting secular education side by side with religious and social upliftment, and to provide good education for the less fortunate and needy students.


BMMT with its team of Volunteer and Eye specialist were able to assist 3 different areas of the country and conducted the Eye Camps.

Social Upliftment

Goats Husbandry Scheme is a pilot project involving more than 64 families with about 200 goats given to various centers to start up.

The founder of Bilal Muslim Mission Of Tanzania

In 1959 he was appointed the Islamic scholar for Lindi, Tanzania.In 1962, He conceived a plan for propagating Islam among the African community. His plan was proposed and approved at the triennial Conference of the Africa Federation in Tanga in 1964 and became the Bilal Muslim Mission. He was transferred from Arusha to Dar es Salaam in mid-eastern Tanzania. He then went to Mombasa in southern Kenya in 1976 and co-founded the Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania in 1968 and the Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya in 1971. He has authored over 140 books, some of them having been translated into many languages including Kiswahili.Today Bilal Muslim Mission has over 75 centers all over Tanzania, Day by day our African Shia brothers are increasing, following and accepting Madhab of Ahlulbayt (AS), Ahamdulillah all this have been achieved by his plan.
